Playing Tourist

It was too hot to hike, and we'd seen enough bighorn sheep, so we played tourist this morning. We got an early start to get a parking place at the Visitor Center, but when we saw the line for the shuttle we were shocked. We waited for 50 minutes to catch a shuttle to Zion Lodge. And it was only 8:30!

We decided to ride the full canyon route and stop at Zion Lodge on the way back down canyon. As crowded as the shuttles were, we figured it was our only chance. Lots of people got off at the stop for Angels Landing. I can't imagine hiking Walters Wiggles in 100-degree heat. They're heartier than we are.

We bought souvenirs at Zion Lodge, boarded the down-canyon shuttle, and returned to the Visitor Center. People were still lined up to the same place as when we arrived at 8:30.

We were back at the motorhome shortly after noon, and we re-packed our stuff for the drive home. We had moved most of our clothes and gear to the Explorer and were ready to leave by late afternoon. We even toyed with the idea of leaving about 10:00 p.m. to escape the heat on the way home. It was 100 - 105 degrees all along our route. It wasn't until Riverside that the temperatures were forecast to be below 100. We decided it would be safer to get a good night's sleep and get an early start tomorrow. We watched Neverland after dinner and got "psyched" for the long drive home.
