Tolovana Beach

Today was completely overcast, but the sky was bright and there was a very low tide. We drove to Tolovana Beach near Cannon Beach and walked down to Haystack Rock. We were hoping to photograph puffins that nest on Haystack Rock. One of the volunteers that guard the tide pool life from the visitors told us the puffins weren't out because they don't like breezy conditions like today. The tide pool life was very disappointing and was limited to a couple of starfish (Pisaster ochraceous) and lots of sea anemones (Anthopleura elegantissima). I'm sure this is a heavily impacted area. I hope we do better as we head south.

Since we were totally socked in with clouds, we returned to camp and settled in.
